Bismack Biyombo

Bismack Biyombo's path is its own kind of achievement: a kid from the Democratic Republic of the Congo who reached the NBA as the seventh pick in 2011 and carved out a long career on defense and effort alone. Never a scorer, he made his living as a rim protector and switch-ready big, most memorably during Toronto's 2016 playoff run, when he filled in for an injured Jonas Valanciunas and grabbed 26 rebounds in a single Conference Finals game against Cleveland. The underrated part of his value is availability and professionalism — he is the veteran every young frontcourt wants in the room, a reliable defensive anchor off the bench. His off-court work building hospitals and schools in the DRC may end up outlasting the basketball.
