Daniss Jenkins earned his shot the hard way — Pacific, then junior college, then Iona and St. John's, following Rick Pitino to the Big East. In his lone St. John's season he ran the show, averaging nearly 15 points and better than five assists while taking All-Big East honors as a pass-first, high-IQ lead guard. Undrafted in 2024, he signed a two-way deal with Detroit and re-upped for 2025-26, when he carved out real rotation minutes at roughly nine points and four assists a night. Of this group of fringe guards, Jenkins has one of the most tangible NBA footprints, and it's easy to see why: coaches have long praised his composure and clutch gene, and that steadiness translates. The open question is whether the two-way deal becomes a guaranteed roster spot.
