Offensive Game
Advanced footwork and shot-making, though efficiency dipped from his explosive high-school peak.
2026 NBA Draft
Selected 2nd overall by the Utah Jazz
Naismith Prep Player of the Year
Named the national high school player of the year at Prolific Prep and a McDonald's All-American
20-point freshman season
Averaged 20.2 points per game as a Kansas freshman across an injury-shortened 24-game season
A Canton, Ohio native, Peterson honored his father Darryl II by wearing No. 22 at Kansas, the number his dad wore before playing at Akron. After a prep path through Cuyahoga Valley Christian, Huntington Prep, and Prolific Prep that yielded Naismith Prep Player of the Year honors, he entered college as a consensus elite prospect. Injuries limited him to 24 games, but he still averaged 20.2 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 1.6 assists on 43.8% shooting and 38.2% from three. A 6'6" combo guard, he pairs a three-level scoring package with a strong frame and shot-making off the dribble; durability and playmaking consistency are the open questions rather than scoring pedigree. Utah took him second overall, betting on his half-court shot creation to anchor a backcourt rebuild.

Defensive Game
