Orlando's defensive tone-setter in the backcourt, and a big reason the Magic's identity hardens on that end of the floor. Suggs arrived as the fifth pick in 2021 out of Gonzaga, where his buzzer-beater in the Final Four became instant lore, and translated that competitiveness into real NBA value defending. He earned All-Defensive Second Team honors in 2024, the first Magic player so recognized since Dwight Howard, by pressuring ball-handlers full-court and fighting over screens. His offense has grown into confident shot-making, though health has been the hurdle: he underwent left-knee surgery and spent 2025-26 working back on a minutes plan. Orlando signed him to a five-year, $150.5 million extension in 2024, a bet on the two-way guard anchoring their next step.

Did You Know?
Suggs was recruited by multiple Division I football programs as a quarterback before committing to basketball full-time — a dual-sport talent that contributed to his exceptional athleticism and spatial instincts.
His halfcourt buzzer-beater against UCLA in the 2021 Final Four banked in off the backboard and is widely regarded as one of the greatest shots in NCAA tournament history.
Suggs grew up rooting for the Minnesota Timberwolves and has spoken about the irony of being drafted to compete against them in the Eastern Conference.
He is one of only three players in Gonzaga history to lead the program in points, rebounds, and assists in the same season.
