San Antonio took Sochan ninth in 2022, its highest pick since Tim Duncan, and he made the All-Rookie Second Team averaging 11.0 points and 5.3 rebounds. Across four-plus seasons and 212 games as a Spur he averaged 10.4 points and 5.6 rebounds. San Antonio waived him in February 2026; New York signed him two days later and he finished the year as a champion, though he played only 6.7 minutes a night to get there. He signed a one-year deal with Portland that August. Few careers contain a release and a championship in the same season, and fewer still at 23. The defensive versatility that made him a lottery pick has never been the issue.
