Dunn arrived as the fifth pick of the 2016 draft carrying big offensive expectations out of Providence, and he made an All-Rookie First Team early. The career that followed reshaped him into something more valuable and less heralded: one of the most disruptive point-of-attack defenders at his position. He guards the ball with a rare blend of size, hands and anticipation, and his steal and block rates run high for a guard. Tellingly, he has repeatedly been left off the league's All-Defensive teams despite a strong on-court case — in part because a minutes threshold in the current CBA works against a player who defends in bursts. With the Clippers he started most of the season, the steady defensive anchor in the backcourt while his offense settled into a low-usage connective role.
