Gobert has won Defensive Player of the Year four times — 2018, 2019, 2021 and 2024 — a total matched only by Ben Wallace and Dikembe Mutombo. In 2025-26 he averaged 10.9 points and 11.5 rebounds on 68.2 percent shooting for Minnesota and made the All-Defensive First Team for the ninth time. Across 905 career games he has averaged 12.5 points and 11.7 rebounds while shooting 65.8 percent, the product of a player who almost never takes a shot he should not. The recurring criticism is about playoff matchups against small lineups; the counterargument is that four DPOYs are not awarded by accident.

Did You Know?
Gobert's 7-foot-9 wingspan is among the longest ever measured at the NBA Draft Combine, giving him a physical advantage that cannot be coached or developed.
He is the son of former French basketball player Rudy Bourgarel, making him a second-generation professional athlete with basketball in his blood.
His name became globally known in March 2020 when his positive COVID-19 test — discovered after he jokingly touched reporters' microphones — triggered the suspension of the entire NBA season.
Gobert is deeply passionate about his French heritage and has been instrumental in building France into a basketball powerhouse on the international stage.
