Defensive Game
Never a premier defender, but sufficiently competitive. Used his strength and anticipation to compensate for athleticism limitations. Gambled for steals but could be exploited by quicker guards.
Intangibles
One of the highest basketball IQs in league history. Made defenses pay for every mistake, found the right play in every situation, and won championships with pure intelligence. A coach on the floor.

Did You Know?
Cassell won back-to-back NBA championships in his first two professional seasons (1994, 1995) with the Houston Rockets — a start to a career that immediately established him as a winner at the highest level.
His famous 'big balls' celebration dance during the 2003-04 season with Minnesota became one of the most talked-about moments in NBA history — a perfect expression of his larger-than-life personality.
Cassell went on to become one of the most respected assistant coaches in the NBA after retiring, working with multiple teams and developing point guards including John Wall.
Despite never making an All-Star team until age 34 in his 11th season, Cassell consistently produced at an elite level — making him one of the most underappreciated players in league history during his prime.
