TyTy Washington Jr. looked like a value pick out of Kentucky, where he earned second-team All-SEC as a poised freshman combo guard who could run an offense or play off it. Houston grabbed him 29th in 2022, but his NBA path became a lesson in how thin the margins are for young guards — a modest rookie run with the Rockets, then brief, limited stops in Milwaukee and Phoenix that never gave him rhythm. What kept him in the league is what he did beneath it: he tore up the G League, and in 2025-26 that production earned a two-way deal with the Clippers in December after a scorching stretch with their San Diego affiliate. The tools — size for the position, feel as a passer, an improving shot — are still there. At his age he reads less like a bust than a reclamation project waiting on the right, stable opportunity.

Youth basketball in Memphis and New Orleans
Did You Know?
Washington grew up in New Orleans before moving to Memphis — a dual-city basketball background that exposed him to two of the most intense basketball cultures in the American South.
His Kentucky season was one of several high-profile one-and-done performances under John Calipari that established him as a first-round prospect despite limited college experience.
Washington is one of the youngest players on the Clippers roster, giving the team genuine developmental upside alongside their veteran core.
He was highly recruited nationally before committing to Kentucky, reflecting the widespread belief in his talent even before his college breakout.
