Kristaps Porzingis

Porzingis was famously booed by Madison Square Garden fans when selected 4th overall by the Knicks in 2015 — he responded by averaging 14.3 points in his rookie year and proving every doubter wrong.

All four Porzingis brothers played professional basketball — making their family one of the most remarkable basketball-producing families in international history, all from the Latvian port city of Liepāja.

He grew from 6'1" at age 13 to 7'2" by age 16 — a growth surge so dramatic that teams initially did not know what position to recruit him for, which gave Latvia's youth programs time to develop his skills before major European clubs took notice.

His nickname 'The Unicorn' was popularized by Kevin Durant, who used the term to describe Porzingis's rare combination of size, shooting, and shot-blocking — a physical profile that simply had not existed before in the NBA.
