Allen arrived in July 2010 after five seasons with the Boston Celtics, including the 2008 championship, valued there as a perimeter defender with a limited offensive role. Memphis transformed him into the most physically demanding defender in the Western Conference, and teammates and fans organically named him the Grindfather.
