Flagg was born in one of the smallest markets in America — Newport, Maine has a population of under 4,000 people — yet grew up to become the most coveted basketball prospect of his generation.
He reclassified from the 2025 high school graduating class to 2024, giving up a year of eligibility to enter college a year early.
At Montverde Academy, Flagg's teammates included multiple future NBA lottery picks, yet he was universally acknowledged as the best player on campus.
The Mavericks' selection of Flagg was the first number-one overall pick in franchise history, ending decades of lottery near-misses.
