Won the Defensive Player of the Year award in its inaugural season (1983) AND the following year (1984) — no player has ever won it in the first two seasons of its existence.
The DPOY award was created in part because evaluators needed a way to formally recognize what Moncrief was doing annually at the defensive end.
The Bucks reached the Eastern Conference Finals three consecutive years under Moncrief but were eliminated by the Celtics dynasty each time — one of the great 'what if a different era' stories in NBA history.
Mentored a generation of Arkansas players and remained connected to college basketball coaching long after retirement.
