Caruso has two championship rings from two franchises — the 2020 Lakers and the 2025 Thunder — without ever being a starter of consequence on either. The league's recognition came through defense: All-Defensive First Team in 2022-23 and Second Team the following year, both in Chicago, where his final season produced career highs of 10.1 points, 3.8 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.7 steals and 1.0 blocks. The blocks number is the giveaway; guards do not usually post it. He is the clearest argument available that plus-minus and role fit capture something a scoring average cannot — two rings, two organisations, and a career-high scoring season that never reached eleven points a game.

Defensive Game
Among the NBA's elite perimeter defenders. His anticipation, length, and relentless effort generate steals and deflections that rank consistently near the league's best. His hands and IQ make him the ideal full-court disruptor.
Intangibles
One of the highest IQ players in the NBA — his ability to read offensive patterns defensively, set screens, move without the ball, and make the correct decision in complex situations is exceptional.

Did You Know?
Caruso went undrafted in 2016 but earned his first NBA contract through a G League stint with the South Bay Lakers — turning a practice squad opportunity into a championship ring and a long NBA career.
Lakers fans nicknamed him 'Carushow' for his unexpected highlight-reel dunks, blocks, and alley-oops that made him a cult hero at Staples Center.
His 2021 chase-down block on Giannis Antetokounmpo during the NBA Playoffs became one of the most memorable defensive plays of the decade.
He ranks consistently in the NBA's top 5 in steal percentage — a statistical feat that places him among the game's elite defensive disruptors despite his slender build.
