Charles Wade Barkley, born February 20, 1963, in Leeds, Alabama, is one of the most physically dominant and statistically complete power forwards in NBA history — a relentless competitor who achieved greatness through force of will despite being officially listed at six feet, six inches, undersized for the position he owned. Barkley attended Auburn University, where he earned the nickname "The Round Mound of Rebound" and became one of the most productive college players of his era before the Philadelphia 76ers selected him fifth overall in the 1984 NBA Draft. His eight years with the 76ers — from 1984 to 1992 — defined the franchise's identity through one of its most competitive eras. Playing alongside Julius Erving in the twilight of Dr. J's career and later as the team's singular offensive centerpiece, Barkley developed into one of the most dominant offensive big men in the league. His extraordinary rebounding ability was his defining statistical gift: he led the NBA in rebounding and consistently ranked among the league leaders despite his size disadvantage, compensating with positioning, anticipation, and sheer physicality that larger centers could not overcome. During his Philadelphia tenure, Barkley averaged at least 23 points and 11 rebounds in six of his eight seasons, made the All-Star team every year, and provided the competitive engine the franchise required. Though the 76ers never achieved championship contention during his tenure as the primary star — a frustration that eventually prompted his trade request to Phoenix — his impact was undeniable. After being traded to the Suns in 1992, Barkley won the NBA Most Valuable Player Award in 1993 — the same year he led Phoenix to the NBA Finals — with averages of 25.6 points, 12.2 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game. He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2006. His jersey number 34 has been retired by the Philadelphia 76ers, honoring eight seasons of All-Star intensity that established him as one of the 50 greatest players in NBA history.

His post-playing career as an NBA analyst on TNT's Inside the NBA has made him one of the most recognizable sports personalities in America.
Barkley famously predicted his own MVP season by declaring before the 1992-93 season that he would win the award — then backing it up with one of the most complete individual seasons in NBA history.
