Murray led the league in steals in 2022 and made his first All-Star team the same season, the culmination of a long climb from a late first-round pick into a two-way starting guard. Across 472 games for San Antonio and Atlanta he averaged 15.4 points, 5.8 rebounds and 5.3 assists with 1.4 steals. A non-contact tear of his right Achilles in late January ended his 2024-25 season, and the recovery kept him out until the second half of 2025-26, when he made just 14 appearances for New Orleans. An Achilles at his age and position is the kind of injury that rewrites a career or does not, and it is too early to say which.

Murray grew up in one of Seattle's toughest neighborhoods and channeled the hardship of his father's incarceration into the relentless work ethic that defines his career.
He played at Rainier Beach High School in Seattle — the same program that produced Jamal Crawford and Isaiah Thomas.
Murray suffered a torn ACL early in his first Pelicans season (2024-25) — a devastating setback that robbed New Orleans of its key acquisition before the team could evaluate the pairing with Williamson.
He is one of only a handful of players in NBA history to average at least 20 points, 8 assists, 6 rebounds, and 2 steals in a season.
