Devin Carter arrived as the No. 13 pick in 2024 with a ready-made identity: a defense-first guard who won Big East Player of the Year at Providence and rebounds like a wing. Basketball runs in the family — his father, Anthony Carter, spent 13 years in the NBA and moved into coaching. A shoulder surgery ate into Carter's rookie year, so 2025-26 was really his first extended runway. He gave Sacramento 38 games (12 starts) at about 8.9 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.7 assists, flashing the point-of-attack defense that got him drafted. The jumper is still catching up — he shot in the mid-20s from three — which is the piece that will decide his role. In the June 2026 offseason the Kings traded him to Atlanta, giving him a fresh backcourt to prove the shot, and the minutes, can grow.
