Hannes Steinbach

Steinbach grew up in Würzburg, Germany, and turned professional with the Würzburg Baskets in the Basketball Bundesliga before crossing to American college basketball. In his lone season at Washington he posted 18.5 points and 11.8 rebounds on 57.7% shooting, led NCAA Division I in rebounding and earned third-team All-Big Ten and Big Ten All-Freshman recognition. A 6'11", 248-pound big, he excels on the offensive glass, finishes efficiently inside and runs the floor with a relentless motor; his outside shot (34% on limited volume) and rim protection (a modest block rate for a projected center) are the clear areas to develop at the next level. Charlotte selected him 14th overall, betting on his rebounding and energy to complement a young core led by LaMelo Ball, Brandon Miller and Kon Knueppel, with room to grow into a frontcourt rotation role.
