Kennard has led the NBA in three-point percentage three times — 2021-22, 2022-23 and again in 2025-26 at 47.8 percent — which is a rarer distinction than his profile suggests. Detroit took him 12th in 2017 after a sophomore year at Duke in which he averaged 19.5 points, and he has since moved through the Clippers, Memphis, Atlanta and a four-month stretch in Los Angeles before signing a two-year, $13 million deal with Phoenix in June 2026. The volume has never been large and the defence has never been the draw. Teams keep paying him because the shot goes in at a rate almost nobody else sustains.

Defensive Game
Below-average defender who can be targeted in isolation. Not a liability when used within a defensive scheme but requires protection from teammates.
Intangibles
High off-ball IQ. Understands spacing, timing, and how to get open. Reads defensive rotations well and makes quick decisions in catch-and-shoot situations.
