Maurice Cheeks

Maurice Cheeks was the steadying hand on one of the great teams in NBA history. The point guard ran Philadelphia's 1983 champions — the 76ers of Julius Erving and Moses Malone — asking for none of the spotlight while setting the table and hounding ball-handlers the length of the floor. A four-time All-Star, he made five straight All-Defensive teams and retired as the NBA's all-time steals leader with 2,310, the first player to reach 2,000 steals entirely in the league. His value never lived in scoring averages; it was in the turnovers he forced, the shots he saved, and the calm he brought to a loaded roster. The Hall of Fame finally called in 2018. He later coached the Trail Blazers and 76ers, and his No. 10 hangs in Philadelphia's rafters.
