Gueye's basketball story is compressed: he didn't touch organized hoops until arriving from Dakar at 16, yet two years at Washington State was enough to make him a first-team All-Pac-12 big and a 2023 second-round pick whose rights bounced from Charlotte to Boston to Atlanta on draft night. The pro path has tested his durability as much as his development — a back stress fracture erased most of his first season. He answered in year three by playing 77 games as frontcourt insurance, doing the unglamorous work: rim protection, offensive-glass activity, and switchable defense out on the perimeter. He's still raw as a scorer, but Atlanta valued the athletic baseline enough to pick up his 2026-27 team option. For a late-blooming big, staying available is its own form of progress.
