Bing served as Mayor of Detroit from 2009 to 2013, making him one of only a handful of professional athletes to become the mayor of a major American city.
He led the NBA in scoring as a rookie in 1966-67, becoming one of only a small number of first-year players to achieve that feat in league history.
Bing played at a time when the NBA had far fewer teams and the competition for scoring leadership was intense — his accomplishments place him among the elite guards of any era.
