Cedric Coward is one of the better recent examples of the NBA's scouting reach — a wing who climbed from Eastern Washington to Washington State to the 2025 lottery despite a senior season cut to six games by injury. Portland took him 11th and flipped him to Memphis on draft night, and the Grizzlies got an immediate contributor. Coward started 47 of his 62 rookie games and averaged about 13.6 points, 5.9 rebounds and 2.8 assists on 47% shooting — the do-a-bit-of-everything line that fits a modern wing. What stands out is the touch: he shot 84% from the line and had games like a 27-point, 6-for-6 night from three against Indiana, a Grizzlies rookie first. The reward was All-Rookie First Team honors. His three-point rate can climb, but the frame, feel and shot-making profile point up.
