Holmes's story is really about a year lost and slowly reclaimed. Denver acquired the athletic Dayton big via a draft-night trade at No. 22 in 2024, then watched him tear his right Achilles in his Summer League debut that July — wiping out his entire first NBA season. The 2025-26 campaign was his real introduction: 25 games with six starts, a modest 3.7 points on 50.8% shooting, plus development reps with the G League's Grand Rapids Gold. Counting stats undersell it. For a player rebuilding explosion after an Achilles rupture, simply cycling back into an NBA rotation and finishing above 50% from the field is the meaningful marker. The bounce and rim-running that made him a first-rounder are still there to reprove.
