Isaiah Stewart is one of the NBA's most physical interior defenders — a broad-shouldered big who has built a role out of rim protection and sheer force. The 16th pick in the 2020 draft, he spent his first six seasons with the Detroit Pistons, where in 2025-26 he was named the Eastern Conference's Defensive Player of the Month for December, a first in franchise history. That season he averaged 10.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.6 blocks and held opponents to 45.5% at the rim, a mark bettered only by Chet Holmgren. A 2026 trade sent him to the Memphis Grizzlies, where his toughness and screen-setting fit a young frontcourt on the rise.

Stewart is one of the few players in the NBA who attended the same prep school as Jalen Duren — La Lumiere School in Indiana — though in different years.
He was involved in one of the most memorable incidents in NBA history when he sustained a cut from LeBron James in November 2021 and had to be restrained from retaliating.
Stewart grew up in Rochester, New York — the same city that produced former NBA player Bob Lanier, whose retired number 16 hangs in the rafters at Little Caesars Arena.
