Smith is a mobile modern big who pairs floor spacing with rebounding and rim protection. Maryland's standout went tenth overall to Phoenix in 2020, and after a slow start there he found footing in Indiana before signing with Chicago, where his skill set fit a frontcourt in transition. He's most useful as a stretch four or five: he'll step out and knock down threes to open the lane, then crash the glass and contest shots at the rim on the other end. In 2025-26 the Bulls leaned on him as a starter for stretches while sorting out life after Nikola Vucevic, and he responded with some of the most productive scoring and rebounding of his career before a calf injury ended his season. Still in his mid-20s, he profiles as a rotation big with genuine two-way utility.
