No. 6 overall pick (2025)
Selected sixth overall by the Washington Wizards out of Texas.
Rookie scoring role
Averaged 12.2 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.0 assists on 41.9% shooting and 35.8% from three while starting 42 of 60 games.
Season cut short
Missed the final five games of the regular season with a right foot sprain after a lingering leg injury slowed his second half.
Washington bet on pure scoring when it took Tre Johnson sixth overall in 2025, and the Texas product spent his rookie year showing why the bet made sense. He averaged 12.2 points on 1.9 made threes a night across 60 games, starting 42 of them for a young Wizards team learning on the job. The tape rewards a closer look: through the first half of the season he shot the ball like one of the best pure scorers in his draft class, and his 35.8% clip from deep understates the shot-making difficulty he lives on. A right foot sprain cost him the final five games, and a lingering leg issue slowed a strong start into a familiar rookie-wall stretch. The projection stays clean, though — Johnson is a shot-creator whose floor is a movement shooter and whose ceiling is a lead scorer, exactly the swing Washington's rebuild needs to hit.
