Icons who defined the franchise's identity
Numbers raised to the rafters forever
The Detroit Pistons have a storied history defined by toughness and team basketball. Originally the Fort Wayne Pistons, the franchise moved to Detroit in 1957. The "Bad Boys" era of the late 1980s — featuring Isiah Thomas, Joe Dumars, Dennis Rodman, and Bill Laimbeer under coach Chuck Daly — won back-to-back championships in 1989 and 1990 with a physically dominant style that dethroned the Boston Celtics and Michael Jordan's Bulls. The 2004 championship team, led by Chauncey Billups, Richard Hamilton, Ben Wallace, and Rasheed Wallace, shocked the world by defeating the heavily favored Los Angeles Lakers. The franchise is currently in a rebuilding phase, developing young talent with an eye toward future contention.
